let me tell you what i had to eat yesterday

Yesterday I ate the following:

a Fiber One Oats and Chocolate Bar
cup of coffee
bowl of vegetable soup
hamburger and fries from McDonald's
two brownies

No, certainly not the most nutritious day I've had lately.  Definitely, could have done better.  But I had plenty.  I didn't go hungry at all.  I had more than what 1 out of every 7 people in the world have to eat.  One child dies from hunger-related causes every five seconds.  Five, people.

Last week the social worker at my school sent out an imploring email to all of our staff begging for food to be brought in for a family in our school.  Here.  In our town.

I don't know about you but I can't imagine not having a refrigerator with nothing in it.  Or a pantry not filled with cans of soup and veggies, bags of rice and chips, fruit on my counter.  Or not being able to let my children eat their banana on the spot in the grocery store.

Next Sunday, some friends and I will be walking in our local CROP Walk to help stamp out hunger locally and all over the world.  If you feel blessed and you have any number of dollars to spare, please click here to donate.

A young girl in the USA says, When you are hungry, you can’t think of anything else.

Josh and the spoon

My son would rather carry around a spoon than anything.  He can have a dozen toys scattered around the room and he will always go to the plastic spoons.  He plays with his sister's play food and cups/bowls/plates/utensils, but he always seems to gravitate towards and play with the spoon more than anything else.

Often times, when he is fussy, I find myself reaching for the nearest baby spoon or plastic toy spoon to hand to him.  It usually does the trick and he is content to walk around the house carrying his beloved spoon.  I've really never seen anything like it and I have a gazillion pictures of him carrying around a spoon.

Hey, whatever floats your boat kiddo.

my blue ribbon winning girl

Julianna entered five exhibits into the fair this year.  Her modeling clay totem pole won first place.  She was thrilled!

This was my personal favorite that she created.  It's a pig made out of recycled materials.  Unfortunately, several kids created similar objects.

She had a great time making everything though and I know Nanna enjoyed helping.

she may know what injury and traffic mean but she sure doesn't understand ignore

Julianna and I camped out in the tent in our backyard Friday night.  It was actually a pretty nice night to sleep outside.  The weather has turned a lot cooler and our bed of quilts and sleeping bags turned out to be decent for sleeping.

The only problem was that the cat kept bothering us.  He would climb the tent and pick at it with his claws trying to find a way in.  He was purring so loudly and I think he just wanted a warm place to sleep, but we would just drift off to sleep and then he would scratch, scratch, scratch.

One time I said to Julianna, "Let's just ignore him."  So he left and came back and sure enough Julianna says loudly, "No Simon!" and so I said it again, "Jules, let's just ignore him."

Now I consider her vocabulary to be pretty good for a four year old.   But her response had me chuckling to myself.  She said, "Mama, what's a nore?"

We made it until 4:30 am and then we came inside.

getting better

My sweet little boy has been sick.  He hasn't had a fever really, just a runny nose and watery eyes and lots of congestion (which congestion = trouble sleeping at night).  He has been totally inconsolable during the daytime while he is awake and he wants to be held ALL. THE. TIME.  For days, we had seen no signs of our happy, sweet, smiley boy until last night.  Last night he started playing with us at the dinner table.  He would smile and throw his head around in a teasing manner.  I was glad to see even the littlest glimpse of my happy boy again so I took a few pics.

throw your hands up!

No, Mom, you can't have my milk!

No more pictures, please!

OK, maybe one more.

Jonathan says he looks like me when he squishes his nose up like this.  Do I really do that?

More nose squishing but you can't see it behind his cup.

He finally got the hang of drinking milk out of a cup.
