hump day randomness

A random list of things that are on my mind:

  • Here's a picture of the dress my mom made.  I mentioned it here.  I think it turned out well, but I had to cut my head off in the pic so you couldn't see my turban head.

  • My mom and the kids and I made a quick stop at Wal-Mart the other day and when we were almost to the car I screamed out in pain from what I thought was a nail through my flip-flop.  If you follow me on Twitter you may have already seen that it turned out to be just a sharp piece of red mulch that looked (and felt) like a rusty nail.  Nevertheless, it hurt something awful and the amount of blood I shed in the parking lot was shocking.  It fine now, but I'll post a picture at the end of this post.  If you don't mind the sight of blood feel free to scroll down to look.
  • I couldn't decide whether or not to sign up for Ramblin' Rose Triathlon again.  Our bikes got stolen at the beginning of the summer and I wasn't sure if we were going to get new ones or not, but once we did replace mine I starting thinking about doing the race again.  It's in eleven days and it's pretty expensive.  I haven't trained at all, but still felt a desire to do it.  Just this morning they put out a call for volunteers for race day and said that they'd offer the first 50 volunteers a free entry into next year's race so I signed up to volunteer instead.  Decision was practically made for me and it's one of the most inspiring events I've ever done so I'm excited I'll get to be a little part of it again.  Plus, I need to get started training for my next half-marathon!
  • There's only 12 weeks until our anniversary trip. That seems like so far away but I know the next 12 weeks will FLY. There's not a word to describe how happy I am to be going.
  • Josh has been fighting me the last couple of times I've left him at preschool summer camp.  He's gone each Tuesday and Thursday all summer and I keep thinking about how awful it's going to be getting him back to going to school every day without a struggle when I leave.  I just hope this happens again.
  • School starts in one week for teachers in my area!  ONE WEEK!  I love the pin on Pinterest that says, "Wow! this summer is going by so slowly," said no teacher ever.  Makes me laugh every time I see it.  I'm starting at a new school this year, but I'd like to write more about that later.
  • Julianna has been giving us a super hard time lately.  She's been intentionally deceitful, bullying her brother, and giving us lots of attitude. She's only six and I fear the teenage years. This has been one of the most challenging couple of weeks since she was a newborn and we've tried several different discipline methods. I am coping with it the best I know how, but I really have to admit that it's been tough. I have run every day this week if that tells you anything.
  • My sister told me that the next Hunger Games movie doesn't come out until November 2013 which seems so very far away to me.  Then they're splitting Mockingjay into two movies to be released the following two Novembers. I don't know if I can wait that long. It seems like that's F.O.R.E.V.E.R!

Oh, that dress is fantastic!

I volunteered at Ramblin' Rose last year, and thought about training for it this year (I do *so* much better sticking to an exercise plan if I have a goal race), but this summer has been so busy I could not have trained adequately. Free entry into next year's race is really a great incentive (and volunteering at a race is fun)! Pledging to get back into a real routine of running and biking when both kids are back in school.

Speaking of - my daughter goes back to school in one week! My son starts classes 12 days later. It will be interesting/challenging to have kids in two different schools, but I am excited about this opportunity for my daughter (she is switching schools, and my son will stay at the school they have both attended for the previous 3 years).

I can relate on the 6yo drama. In fact, we just had a ... discussion ... about whether or not tonight was the night for a fresh pair of pjs. Obviously not a big deal overall, but the arguing/disobedience - ugh! Hoping that back-to-school and back-to-routine will be helpful.

And ouch about the foot!

I think I've pretty much hit everything except The Hunger Games - but I haven't read them!

Longest comment ever, I know! And PS - I got my Sweaty Band! Love it!
